Park City in November sits in a narrow window between the quiet of fall and the first real weekends of ski season. Snow guns are running, opening days are on the calendar, and the town is getting ready, but nothing is guaranteed until the lifts turn. Here is what we know as of early November 2026, and how to plan around the parts that can still change.

Park City in November: What to Expect
The honest summary is that November here is an early-season month. Crews at both major resorts started making snow in the first week of the month, but opening dates are targets, not promises. Ski Utah makes the same point about early-season dates across the state: they depend on cold temperatures and snow.
That shapes how we suggest you plan. Treat a November trip as a bet on a good start, not a sure thing, and build in flexibility. A rental home with a fireplace, a kitchen, and room for the whole group makes a slow snow week far easier to enjoy than a packed itinerary built only around skiing.
Park City Mountain Opening Day
Park City Mountain's target opening day is Friday, Nov. 20, 2026, weather and conditions permitting. The resort announced the date in August, and Visit Park City lists the same one. That puts the first day of lifts just ahead of Thanksgiving week.

Snowmaking is underway. KPCW reported that crews began blowing snow at the top of the Payday lift and Homerun trail on Monday, Nov. 2. The Park Record adds that crews also started on runs off the Saddleback Express and High Meadows Express lifts.
What the mountain looks like
Park City Mountain covers over 7,300 acres across two villages, Mountain Village and Canyons Village. Early in the season, expect only part of that to be open. Opening terrain is usually limited to what snowmaking can cover, so think of the first weeks as groomed runs and short lift lines of options, not the full mountain.
One event worth knowing about: the resort has said Shaun White's The Snow League debuts at the mountain in January. That is outside a November trip, but it explains some of the buzz around this season.
Deer Valley: A Later Start, A Bigger Mountain
Deer Valley's target opening is Saturday, Dec. 5, conditions permitting, according to its announcement. So if your heart is set on Deer Valley, it will not be open for Thanksgiving week unless it opens early. A resort communications manager said that is possible if conditions allow, and that it could also slip if snow is insufficient. Last season's target date did slip into December because of poor snow.
The opening is planned in phases, beginning with terrain around Snow Park and Silver Lake. New this season:
- Hail Peak Express, which serves seven new runs and 200 new acres
- An 86-chair lift moving 2,400 guests per hour
- Snowmaking coverage up to 932 acres, with 32 total chairlifts
The Park Peak and East Village lodges are set to open for the 2027-28 season, so they are not part of this winter. Deer Valley's snowmaking manager told the Park Record the team typically aims for an artificial base of 2 to 3 feet.
Planning Thanksgiving Week in Park City
Because Thanksgiving lands right after Park City Mountain's target opening, the week is a mix of early skiing and a cozy mountain town. A few practical ideas from our side:
- Check the snow report the week you travel. TownLift's snow report is a good local reference for current conditions and opening dates.
- Confirm lift ticket prices on the resort's own site. One local lodging company listed a peak-day adult ticket at $369 as of September 23, but that is not from the resort itself, so verify before you budget.
- Have a backup. Ski Utah lists Alta and Solitude targeting Nov. 20, with Snowbird and Snowbasin at Nov. 27. KPCW reports Brighton and Sundance on Dec. 4 and Powder Mountain on Dec. 11. If Park City's start slips, those are options within the state.
- Check local event listings closer to your dates. Holiday schedules and restaurant hours change, so we would rather point you to Visit Park City than print a list that may be outdated.
Why a home works well in a shoulder month
November trips often involve extended family, a big meal, and uncertain snow. A full kitchen and a living room that fits everyone covers the holiday part whether or not the mountain is fully open. If you are weighing lodging, our Park City property management team can talk through which homes suit your group and dates.
What About the Snow Forecast?
You will see a lot of talk about a strong El Niño this winter. Park City Mountain has cited Super El Niño forecasts, and Sunset's early-season roundup covers how those forecasts are shaping the western season. Forecasts are not snowfall, though, and they say little about what happens in a specific week of November. Watch actual conditions, not predictions.
